Every day, Australians search online for information and resources, and Google Trends shows that Australians are navigating significant pressures, from the rising cost of living and housing shortages to stretched healthcare and education systems. As our economy matures, overcoming these hurdles and driving our next wave of national growth will depend heavily on unlocking new productivity and ideas — precisely the areas where AI is beginning to deliver practical, real-world relief.

Today, we are proud to share the findings of the 2026 AI Opportunity Report, conducted by independent agency Public First. This new research details the potential of AI technology in Australia and highlights a crucial shift. AI is no longer just a future promise. It is a practical, everyday tool uniquely equipped to tackle our country's frontline challenges right now—relieving pressure on households, public services, and small businesses.

The analysis found:

  • Australia’s $240 billion economic dividend: AI adoption can lift national productivity across healthcare, education, and financial services, raising annual labour productivity growth to 1.6% over the 2025–2035 decade.
  • Supercharging frontline healthcare: AI could potentially save 3,200 lives annually through earlier chronic disease detection and reclaim 20 working days per doctor each year from admin (equal to 3.1 hours a week). It can also shave 6.1 years off targeted drug discovery timelines.
  • Supporting teachers and students: Teachers can reclaim 34 working days a year (5.3 hours a week) by using AI to augment routine tasks like lesson planning and feedback. Furthermore, utilising AI tutoring could help cut the First Nations student numeracy attainment gap by 35%.
  • Easing everyday cost and housing pressures: The average household can save AU$3,800 a year using AI tools to find cheaper deals and cut energy waste. By streamlining planning approvals, AI can help speed up the housing pipeline to build 23,000 additional homes annually (+12%).

The adoption of AI highlights the significant future opportunity for Australia - enabling government to provide better and more efficient citizen-centric services, streamlining operations for SMBs so they can spend more time on their core operations or their customers, enabling businesses of all sizes to grow their customer base, and facilitating learning and growth opportunities for students and workers.

The report also highlights Google’s direct 2025 impact:

  • Google’s products enabled AU$59 billion in economic activity for Australian businesses (including AU$36 billion generated specifically for local SMBs), helping them reach new consumers, streamline their operations, gain new customer insights and identify new market opportunities.
  • Our platforms supported 180,000 Australian jobs by helping local businesses expand their reach.
  • Local enterprises secured AU$5.2 billion in export revenue from overseas markets using Google’s products.

We are proud to provide the digital infrastructure and tools that help Australians seize this massive wave of growth. Read the full findings in the 2026 AI Opportunity Factsheet here and discover how Google contributes to your local community.
